In Nepal, Norvic is the only hospital providing treatment with Mini PCNL technique.

Norvic is one of the well versed centres for excellence in the faculty of Urology. It has got a well balanced team of surgeons and physicians to deal with all types of complex Urological disorders. The procedures being undertaken under urology faculty at Norvic are as follows:
Orchidopexy, Endoscopic Bladder Neck Suspension, Mini PCNL, Nephrectomy, Total Cystectomy, Cystoscopy, TURP, Refropublic Prostatectomy.
Recently an extensive Mini PCNL Camp was organized at Norvic and the outcome has been given below,

Norvic International Hospital organized a special Camp to treat patients of complex urological disorders. Pre screening and consultations of the patients were undertaken on December 25 – 28, 2007 by a team of Norvic's Urologist headed by Dr. Sanjay Khadgi. A total of 13 patients were referred for complex surgeries using Mini PCNL technique, the latest technique in treating Urological ailments.
Out of 13 patients, 9 were treated using Mini PCNL technique, 2 underwent Urinary Bladder Cancer surgery, 1 underwent prostate surgery (uneven full) and 1 patient was treated with Laparoscopic Uro Surgery.

All surgeries went smoothly and successfully. Most of the kidney stone patient discharged after 48 hours of surgery. The Urinary Bladder Cancer patients were referred to us by other medical Centers in Kathmandu. They were evaluated and planned for removal of whole bladder with the cancer part and new bladder of intestine was made and replaced. The surgery took about 6 hours to complete. No other complication and blood transfusion was required for the surgeries. The patients were given normal diet on the 3rd day of operation. Catheter and drainage of the patients were removed after 15 days and the patient started voiding themselves leading to a normal life.

Altogether 3 cases of such a technically demanding and complex Urological surgery requiring the replacement of Urinary Bladder has been performed at Norvic so far. The procedure involved in this surgery is called Orthotopic Neo Bladder Surgery which is one of the most difficult surgeries in the field of Urology.

Under Mini PCNL technique only, over 450 patients of complex Urological disorders including Kidney Stone, Stones of Urinary Tract and other Urological ailments have been successfully treated at Norvic till December end 2007.

Residing at Bhimsensthan, Kupondole, Lalitpur. Mr. Post Bahadur Dangol, 66 M is a retired Civil Engineer by profession.  Mr.  Dongol worked for NCCN throughout.  During his professional working life, he was exposed to pitch of road construction.  His food habit/lifestyle was also not healthy as it could have been during his professional life.

While he was in Kohalpur on a special mission on construction projects with his foreign team mates for five years, he enjoyed having red meat and wines. As a result, he developed high Blood Pressure/Blood Sugar as well. Both High Blood Pressure and High Blood Sugar are now controlled with the help of medicines, but consequently he developed other fatal and dreaded disease like cancers of Urinary Bladder.
Time and again Mr. Dangol suffered mild fever and was also diagnosed having kidney stones. The stones were removed with the help of surgery in some other medical center.

It was sometime in 1996, he was diagnosed as having tumor in his kidney. The tumor was removed by surgery but since 2000 he had reccurrance of tumor of Urinary Bladder and underwent repeated palliative surgery but all in vain.

Around 2002, blood was seen in his urine and upon investigations; it was revealed that he had developed cancer of urinary bladder.  Since then, he was constantly given chemo therapy while his Doctors never recommended for surgical remedy.  Finally, in the last week of December, 2007, one of his family relatives and a Doctor recommended him to go for surgery at Norvic.  Dr.  Sanjay Khadgi along with his team of consultant Urologists at Norvic carried out the surgery of his urinary bladder cancer and in fact, removed the whole bladder. A new bladder of his intestine was made and replaced. During 15 days of his surgery, he had to void his urine through a special catheter and drainage.  The catheter and drainage has been removed now.

Finally, he is now leading a normal life. Mr.Dangol said, he is very thankful to Norvic for providing him with a new life.
